In response to the March 3, 2020 tornado in Nashville, Davidson County and COVID-19 and the impact the pandemic is having on the Greater Nashville community, limited funding is available from Vanderbilt Divinity School and the Public Theology and Racial Justice Collaborative through a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation to help alleviate the burden on individuals and service providers assisting with relief efforts. We seek to work closely with collaborative partners and related partner groups to ensure that the funds awarded meet the greatest needs in communities disproportionately impacted by the tornadoes and COVID-19.

Application for Funding

Funding is available for immediate response to help individuals impacted by wage loss, displacement, and to agencies that need organizational support to provide tornado relief and/or COVID-19 relief services.

The focus of funding includes:

  1. Funding to aid individuals impacted by wage loss, including:

    • Rent/Mortgage

    • Utilities

    • Food

    • Direct Financial Assistance for wage loss

  2. Funding to aid entities for rebuilding and rebranding.

Applications will be reviewed on an ongoing basis until our source is depleted. All organizations will apply by invitation for funds. If granted, each entity will be required to complete a simple Outcomes Form verifying use of funds. A template for the report will be provided along with each approval notification.

Eligible Organizations include:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofits

  • faith-based organizations, and

  • other community-based organizations providing tornado relief and/or COVID-19 relief services.

To complete the application, you will need:

  • Contact information for your organization including phone numbers and two valid email addresses

  • Information regarding plan to support tornado relief and/or COVID-19 recovery efforts

  • 501(c)(3) determination letter or its equivalent
